US Revokes 300,000 Visas Amid Immigration Crackdown

The Trump administration has revoked more than 300,000 US visas since January 2025, citing criminal activity, fraud and national security concerns.

US Visa Holders Face Increased Immigration Enforcement
The State Department reports over 300,000 US visa revocations since January 2025. Learn about the cited reasons and potential implications for visa holders.

More than 300,000 US visas revoked since January 2025.

The Trump administration has revoked more than 300,000 US visas since January 2025, according to the US State Department. The cancellations reflect an intensified immigration enforcement campaign targeting foreign nationals accused of criminal offences, immigration violations, fraud and conduct considered a threat to public safety or national security. The latest figure marks a sharp increase from the 175,000-plus revocations reported in August 2026.

Why Has the US Revoked 300,000 Visas?

The State Department says the administration is following a zero-tolerance approach towards foreign nationals who violate US laws or pose security concerns.

Key reasons cited in the crackdown include:

  • Criminal offences: Reported grounds include assault, driving under the influence (DUI), theft and drug-related offences.
  • Immigration violations and fraud: Authorities are targeting cases involving violations of visa conditions and misrepresentation.
  • Birth tourism: More than 4,000 visa revocations have reportedly been linked to birth tourism, where foreign nationals travel to the US to give birth, with the aim of securing US citizenship for their children.

The administration describes the measures as an effort to strengthen enforcement and public safety. Rights advocates have raised concerns about due process, freedom of expression and the potential for discriminatory targeting.

Which Visa Holders Are Affected by the US Visa Revocations?

The reported revocations span cases involving different visa holders. The government has not published a complete breakdown of all affected nationalities and visa categories.

Groups potentially affected by the enforcement measures include:

  • Students and exchange visitors: Those whose cases raise concerns about legal compliance or other grounds for revocation.
  • Workers and business visitors: Visa holders whose conduct or circumstances may trigger review under applicable rules.
  • Tourists and other temporary visitors: Individuals accused of criminal offences, fraud or violating visa conditions.

A revocation is an individual action; the announcement does not mean that every holder of a particular visa category is affected. Applicants should check official notices and the status of their own visa.

Can a Revoked US Visa Affect Future Immigration Applications?

Yes. Depending on the reason for revocation, an applicant may face additional scrutiny or difficulties with future US visa applications. Fraud, misrepresentation or certain criminal conduct can carry immigration consequences beyond the cancellation of a visa.

Applicants should keep the following in mind:

  • Future visa applications: Disclose information accurately and respond to questions about prior revocations.
  • United States Green Card applications: A visa revocation does not automatically mean a Green Card application will be denied. The underlying facts and applicable immigration law matter.
  • US permanent residency: Eligibility depends on the relevant immigration category and any applicable grounds of inadmissibility.

Those researching how to get a Green Card in USA should distinguish temporary visa enforcement from the rules governing permanent residence. Green Card processing time is also a separate issue and is not automatically changed by the reported revocations.

For Indian applicants, the announcement does not establish a blanket visa cancellation policy targeting Indians or change all America visa requirements for Indian citizens. Anyone considering an employment-based route, including EB-1A, should assess the relevant eligibility criteria separately; consulting an EB-1A best immigration consultant does not guarantee an approval.

As US visa enforcement intensifies, foreign nationals should monitor official updates, comply with the conditions of their status and seek qualified legal advice if their visa is revoked.
